Our Story
From a band with a vision to a festival that unites thousands. Discover the journey of Milégé.
How It All Began
The Milégé World Music Festival was founded in 2009 by the Milégé Band, led by Manana F. Birabi. It began as an annual event hosted at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort. The festival's core mission was to showcase a diverse blend of arts, including music, dance, poetry, storytelling, and visual arts, with a special emphasis on celebrating the rich, indigenous cultures of Uganda.
From its inception, the festival aimed to be more than just entertainment; it was a platform for cultural immersion and artistic mentorship. This was embodied by the Milégé Acoustic Project, which provides free music and life skills training to younger artists. The festival quickly became known for its unique camping experience, allowing attendees to connect deeply with nature and the vibrant artistic community.
Now located at the beautiful Tropical Beach in Garuga, Entebbe, the festival continues its legacy. It stands as Uganda's biggest celebration of world music, a testament to the power of art to unite communities and preserve cultural heritage for a new generation.
